Pfizer has been trying to sell Viagra to its patients. The company announced last week that it has received a letter from Health Canada requesting it not sell the drug for erectile dysfunction, a condition that was discovered through its own studies.
The letter, which will be presented in London, was posted on the company's website on May 25.
Pfizer's patent on the drug was expiring on Aug. 6. It will expire in April 2017.

In a statement, Pfizer stated: "We continue to operate as a drug company in accordance with the agreement with the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that we are in compliance with regulatory requirements."
Pfizer has also been asked by Health Canada to revise its guidelines for prescribing sildenafil to treat erectile dysfunction. Pfizer's guidelines are:

For use as recommended by the USPTO, Pfizer says: "Pfizer is currently evaluating the safety and effectiveness of sildenafil as part of a treatment plan for patients who have been diagnosed with Erectile Dysfunction and are otherwise healthy and able to engage in sexual activity."
Pfizer is in the process of launching an official launch of its generic version of Viagra in the spring of 2017.
Pfizer's marketing team, which began marketing the drug in 1998, has been working on a new treatment for Erectile Dysfunction, called sildenafil citrate.
It will be marketed by Pfizer as an oral treatment that Pfizer is developing to treat erectile dysfunction in men.
Viagra is approved for treatment of Erectile Dysfunction in adult men aged 18 to 64 years.
